{"id":301098,"date":"2026-03-05T08:34:14","date_gmt":"2026-03-05T16:34:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.teslarati.com\/?p=301098"},"modified":"2026-03-05T09:17:21","modified_gmt":"2026-03-05T17:17:21","slug":"tesla-ships-out-update-everyone-that-california-caused","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.teslarati.com\/tesla-ships-out-update-everyone-that-california-caused\/","title":{"rendered":"Tesla ships out update that brings massive change to two big features"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tesla has shipped out an update for its vehicles that was caused specifically by a California lawsuit that threatened the company&#8217;s ability to sell cars because of how it named its driver assistance suite.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla shipped out Software Update 2026.2.9 starting last week; we received it already, and it only brings a few minor changes, mostly related to how things are referenced.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This change only updates the name of certain features and text in your vehicle,&#8221; the company wrote in Release Notes for the update, &#8220;and does not change the way your features behave.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The following changes came to Tesla vehicles in the update:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Navigate on Autopilot has now been renamed to Navigate on Autosteer<\/li>\n<li>FSD Computer has been renamed to AI Computer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Tesla <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teslarati.com\/tesla-avoids-california-sales-suspension\/\">faced a 30-day sales suspension in Californi<\/a>a after the state&#8217;s Department of Motor Vehicles stated the company had to come into compliance regarding the marketing of its automated driving features.<\/p>\n<p>The agency confirmed on February 18 that it had taken a &#8220;corrective action&#8221; to resolve the issue. That corrective action was renaming certain parts of its ADAS.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teslarati.com\/tesla-removes-autopilot-standard-receives-criticism-online\/\">discontinued its standalone Autopilot offering in January<\/a> and ramped up the marketing of Full Self-Driving Supervised. Tesla had said on X that the issue with naming &#8220;was a \u2018consumer protection\u2019 order about the use of the term \u2018Autopilot\u2019 in a case where not one single customer came forward to say there\u2019s a problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-conversation=\"none\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">This was a \u201cconsumer protection\u201d order about the use of the term \u201cAutopilot\u201d in a case where not one single customer came forward to say there\u2019s a problem.<\/p>\n<p>Sales in California will continue uninterrupted.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Tesla North America (@tesla_na) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/tesla_na\/status\/2001103872891486627?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 17, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>It is now compliant with the wishes of the California DMV, and we&#8217;re all dealing with it now.<\/p>\n<p>This was the first primary dispute over the terminology of Full Self-Driving, but it has undergone some scrutiny at the federal level, as some government officials have claimed the suite has &#8220;deceptive&#8221; names. Previous Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg was one of those federal-level employees who had an issue with the names &#8220;Autopilot&#8221; and &#8220;Full Self-Driving.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Tesla <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teslarati.com\/tesla-sues-california-dmv-over-autopilot-and-fsd-advertising-ruling\/\">sued the California DMV<\/a> over the ruling last
