Musk\u2019s statement was shared in a post on social media platform X. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/elonmusk\/status\/2029123591871308272?s=10\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">post<\/a>, Musk stated that \u201cTesla will be one of the companies to make AGI and probably the first to make it in humanoid\/atom-shaping form.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The comment comes as Tesla expands <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.teslarati.com\/tesla-cybercab-optimus-coming-next-giga-berlin\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">development<\/a> of its Optimus humanoid robot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During Tesla\u2019s Q4 earnings report, Elon Musk stated that production of the Model S and Model X would be phased out at its Fremont, California, facility. The vehicles&#8217; production line will then be converted to a pilot line for Optimus. Tesla is looking to produce 1 million units of the humanoid robots annually to start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Musk has previously stated that Optimus could eventually function as a von Neumann probe. The concept, proposed by mathematician John von Neumann, describes a machine capable of replicating itself using planetary resources and sending those replicas to other worlds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Optimus would likely only be able to achieve this potential if it manages to achieve Artificial General Intelligence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Tesla will be one of the companies to make AGI and probably the first to make it in humanoid\/atom-shaping form<\/p>&mdash; Elon Musk (@elonmusk) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/2029123591871308272?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 4, 2026<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Other leaders in the AI sector have also expressed strong expectations about AGI\u2019s potential. Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google DeepMind, recently spoke about the technology at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, as noted in a <em><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.benzinga.com\/markets\/tech\/26\/02\/50439337\/elon-musk-touts-optimus-academy-to-train-robots-says-spacex-tesla-have-100-gw-a-year-mandate-on-solar-energy-generation\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Benzinga<\/a><\/em> report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s going to be something like ten times the impact of the Industrial Revolution, but happening at ten times the speed,\u201d Hassabis said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elon Musk\u2019s recent comments about Tesla producing a product with AGI could hint at further collaboration among his companies. So far, Tesla is actively pursuing autonomous driving, but it is xAI that is pursuing AGI with its Grok program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Considering that Elon Musk mentioned a Tesla humanoid product with AGI, it appears that an Optimus robot running xAI\u2019s AI models could become a reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>xAI had recently merged with SpaceX, though reports suggest that Elon Musk is also considering an
