{"id":301034,"date":"2026-03-03T04:12:51","date_gmt":"2026-03-03T12:12:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.teslarati.com\/?p=301034"},"modified":"2026-03-03T04:22:10","modified_gmt":"2026-03-03T12:22:10","slug":"tesla-giga-berlin-head-handelsblatt-false-production-figures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.teslarati.com\/tesla-giga-berlin-head-handelsblatt-false-production-figures\/","title":{"rendered":"Tesla Giga Berlin head calls out Handelsblatt&#8217;s claimed 2025 production figures"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Tesla Gigafactory Berlin\u2019s plant manager has publicly pushed back against recent reporting by German business publication <em>Handelsblatt<\/em>, which cited reportedly erroneous data about the factory\u2019s production figures and financial performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Andre Thierig, Senior Director of Manufacturing at Giga Berlin, published a detailed post on LinkedIn challenging several points made in the publication\u2019s coverage of the Gr\u00fcnheide facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/andre-thierig-3959a035_liebe-linkedin-community-ich-muss-hier-mal-activity-7434175156148776960-DoA0\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LinkedIn post<\/a>, Thierig called out <em>Handelsblatt<\/em>\u2019s claim that 149,000 Model Y vehicles were produced at Giga Berlin in 2025. He noted that &#8220;the article is simply filled from front to back with false information and claims!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI have to set the record straight here! In the last article about Tesla in Gr\u00fcnheide, the Handelsblatt speaks e.g. of 149,000 Model Ys built in 2025. WRONG!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn 2025, we again produced over 200,000 vehicles. And this despite the fact that we stopped production in Q1 for the changeover to the new Model Y and then ramped it up again to 5,000 units per week over several weeks,\u201d Thierig wrote.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Here&#39;s Andr\u00e9 Thierig (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AndrThie?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@AndrThie<\/a>), Tesla Giga Berlin head, firing back with facts at the misreporting from Handelsblatt.<br><br>The German media site has turned into a mouthpiece of IG Metall, the one trying to unionize Giga Berlin.<br><br>&quot;Dear Handelsblatt &#8211; what has become of you?&quot; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ZunHLzCCwg\">pic.twitter.com\/ZunHLzCCwg<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Jaan of the EVwire.com \u26a1 (@TheEVuniverse) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheEVuniverse\/status\/2028518352935637231?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 2, 2026<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>He added that production increased each quarter in 2025 compared to the prior quarter and stated that more than 700,000 Model Y units have been produced at Gr\u00fcnheide since manufacturing began in 2022. For the first quarter of 2026, he stated that the factory is planning another production increase compared to the fourth quarter of 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thierig also questioned <em>Handelsblatt<\/em>\u2019s reported 0.74% profit margin, writing that how the publication calculated the figure \u201cremains reserved for their secret \u2018calculation skills.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond production data, Thierig highlighted Tesla\u2019s broader footprint in Germany, stating that the company has invested more than \u20ac5 billion in Gr\u00fcnheide since 2020 and created nearly 11,000 permanent, above-tariff jobs. He added that Tesla is currently investing nearly \u20ac100 million into battery cell production at the site, which is expected to generate several hundred additional positions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a follow-up comment, Thierig noted that he did communicate with the publication\u2019s editor-in-chief in an effort to \u201cstart fresh,\u201d but he was informed that <em>Handelsblatt<\/em>\u2019s current approach works just fine.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLast year, I spoke to a representative of the Handelsblatt editor-in-chief and suggested that we &#8220;start anew&#8221; again. Handelsblatt turned down this offer on the grounds that their current approach works well for them,\u201d Thierig noted.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>S\u00f6nke Iwersen, Head of Investigative Research at <em>Handelsblatt<\/em>, responded to Thierig\u2019s post, stating that the newspaper\u2019s figures were based on Tesla\u2019s own annual financial statements for the Gr\u00fcnheide entity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He cited reported 2024 revenue of \u20ac7.68 billion, operating profit of \u20ac156.8 million, and net income after taxes of \u20ac55.6 million. Iwersen also referenced prior public comments from Elon Musk about Cybertruck demand, noting the gap between reported pre-orders and subsequent annual sales figures.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also stated that the works council election eligibility figures Giga Berlin had dropped to 10,703 employees today from 12,415 two years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs far as production figures are concerned, these are figures from the data service provider Inovev. This is also stated in the article. Please compare this with Elon Musk&#8217;s information on demand for the Cybertruck. According to Musk, there were one million pre-orders. In the first year, 39,000 units were sold, in the second year 20,000. How can this be explained? With a million pre-orders?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou yourself have repeatedly pointed out in recent months that no jobs would be cut in Gr\u00fcnheide because Tesla is different from the competition. Now a new works council is being elected in Gr\u00fcnheide. 10,703 people are eligible to vote. Two years ago, 12,415 people were eligible to vote.
