In January, the battery supplier announced plans for its first plant in Beijing. CATL&#8217;s&nbsp;<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.teslarati.com\/catl-battery-tech-chinese-electric-vehicles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">first Beijing battery plant<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&nbsp;will supply cells to Li Auto and Xiaomi Auto. The Chinese automaker appears to be strengthening its position in China by working with other prominent companies domestically. Recently, Chinese state-owned automaker BAIC announced a&nbsp;<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.teslarati.com\/catl-xiaomi-baic-joint-venture-intelligent-battery-plant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">joint venture with CATL&nbsp;<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">and Xiaomi Auto to build an intelligent battery cell manufacturing facility.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Chinese automaker isn&#8217;t just focused on China, though. It also seems to be working on its presence in North America. CATL is reportedly&nbsp;<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.teslarati.com\/catl-developing-validating-m3p-batteries-tesla-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">working with Tesla<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">&nbsp;to develop and validate M3P batteries. CATL and Tesla are long-time partners.
