It uses GPS location on the owner&#8217;s phone to pinpoint a pickup location and then travels to that spot slowly.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"x30SDhw6Xz\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.teslarati.com\/tesla-smart-summon-saves-family-rainstorm\/\">Tesla Model 3 unparks itself and drives to save family from torrential rainstorm<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; visibility: hidden;\" title=\"&#8220;Tesla Model 3 unparks itself and drives to save family from torrential rainstorm&#8221; &#8212; TESLARATI\" src=\"https:\/\/www.teslarati.com\/tesla-smart-summon-saves-family-rainstorm\/embed\/#?secret=8EH7mhHVnG#?secret=x30SDhw6Xz\" data-secret=\"x30SDhw6Xz\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div class=\"in-article-ad\"><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-4672671650557568\" data-ad-slot=\"7845413937\"><\/ins><script>(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});<\/script><\/div>\n<p>It is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teslarati.com\/tesla-smart-summon-saves-family-rainstorm\/\">useful trick in rainstorms<\/a> and in busy parking lots, and we&#8217;ve seen its effectiveness on several occasions since it was released.<\/p>\n<p>But as the development of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teslarati.com\/tesla-summon-first-step-full-autonomy\/\">semi-autonomous and fully autonomous functions<\/a> continues, there are still some questions about who would be responsible for the infractions a vehicle may commit, including this vehicle in particular, which ran a stop sign in a parking lot.<\/p>\n<p><em>UgoLord,<\/em> a notable TikTok figure that explains liability in everyday situations, recently explained how Tesla Summon running a stop sign could be ticketed.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"3x6klPC3sO\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.teslarati.com\/tesla-smart-summon-obstacle-detection-video\/\">Watch Tesla Smart Summon react to a runaway &#8220;shopping cart&#8221; in latest obstacle test<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; visibility: hidden;\" title=\"&#8220;Watch Tesla Smart Summon react to a runaway &#8220;shopping cart&#8221; in latest obstacle test&#8221; &#8212; TESLARATI\" src=\"https:\/\/www.teslarati.com\/tesla-smart-summon-obstacle-detection-video\/embed\/#?secret=EoKtZU4KTK#?secret=3x6klPC3sO\" data-secret=\"3x6klPC3sO\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In a video showing notable Tesla owner and racer Brooks Weisblat of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=QeNP4lUktPE&amp;pp=ygUWZHJhZ3RpbWVzIHRlc2xhIHN1bW1vbg%3D%3D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>DragTimes<\/em> YouTube channel summoning his Model 3<\/a> in a parking lot, his vehicle moved through a stop sign without coming to a halt, which then made a police officer pull the vehicle over.<\/p>\n<p>However, Summon does not require a human to be in the driver&#8217;s seat, so who is liable?\u00a0<em>UgoLord<\/em> explains that the owner of the car, who is operating the Summon feature, would be liable.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Even in an autonomous, self-driving vehicle, it is still the owner&#8217;s responsibility to ensure that the vehicle obeys all traffic laws,&#8221;\u00a0<em>UgoLord\u00a0<\/em>said.<\/p>\n<p>But this situation is slightly different, and it isn&#8217;t due to anything with the vehicle, but rather the type of property this instance occurred on.<\/p>\n<p>A parking lot of this nature is private property, which would technically disqualify the police officer from giving Weisblat a ticket of any kind. Since it is private property, it is not subject to the laws of public roads,\u00a0<em>UgoLord<\/em> explains.<\/p>\n<p>Weisblat cannot be given a ticket due to this.<\/p>\n<p>It will be interesting to see how the development of autonomous vehicles will affect traffic laws and applicability in the future. Will people who have fully autonomous vehicles be held responsible for their car&#8217;s traffic violations in the future?
