The Boring Company has cleared one of its most significant regulatory milestones yet, securing a key easement from the Music City Center in Nashville just days ago, the latest in a series of approvals that have pushed the Music City Loop project firmly into construction reality.

On March 24, 2026, the Convention Center Authority voted to grant The Boring Company access to an easement along the west side of the Music City Center property, allowing tunneling beneath the privately owned venue. The move follows a unanimous 7-0 vote by the Metro Nashville Airport Authority on February 18, and a joint state and federal approval from the Tennessee Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration on February 25. Together, these green lights have cleared the path for a roughly 10-mile underground tunnel connecting downtown Nashville to Nashville International Airport, with potential extensions into midtown along West End Avenue.

Music City Loop could highlight The Boring Company’s real disruption

Nashville was selected by The Boring Company largely because of its rapid population growth and the strain that growth has placed on surface infrastructure. Traffic has become a persistent problem for residents, convention visitors, and airport travelers alike. The Music City Loop promises an approximately 8-minute underground transit time between downtown and the Nashville International Airport (BNA), removing thousands of vehicles from surface roads daily while operating as a fully electric, zero-emissions system at no cost to taxpayers.

The project fits squarely within a broader vision Musk has championed for years. In responding to a breakdown of the Loop’s construction costs, Musk posted on X: “Tunnels are so underrated.” The comment reflected a longstanding belief that underground transit represents one of the most cost-effective and scalable infrastructure solutions available. The Boring Company has claimed it can build 13 miles of twin tunnels in Nashville for between $240 million and $300 million total, a fraction of what comparable projects cost elsewhere in the country.

The Las Vegas Loop, The Boring Company’s first operational system, has served as a proof of concept. During the CONEXPO trade show in March 2026, the Vegas Loop transported approximately 82,000 passengers over five days at the Las Vegas Convention Center, demonstrating the system’s capacity during large-scale events. Nashville draws millions of convention visitors and tourists each year, and local business leaders have pointed to that same capacity as a major draw for supporting the project.

The Music City Loop was first announced in July 2025. Construction began within hours of the February 25 state approval, with The Boring Company’s Prufrock tunneling machine already in the ground the same evening. The first operational segment is targeted for late 2026, with the full route expected to be complete by 2029. The project represents one of the largest privately funded infrastructure efforts currently underway in the United States.

The Boring Company’s tunneling machine has officially reached the Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas, as the enterprise continues developing its network of underground tunnels throughout the city.

The Elon Musk-led company posted about the news on X on Friday, including a photo and video of its Prufrock tunnel boring machine (TBM) as it emerged at the Virgin Hotels resort. The site is the latest in The Boring Company’s continued development of the Las Vegas Loop, a broader network of underground ride-hailing tunnels following its initial loop, the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) loop.

The Boring Company details its Prufrock machine on its website, saying that it’s designed to tunnel at a speed greater than 1 mile per week. While the speed is still four or five times slower than a garden snail, the company says the machine is continually improving, with the eventual goal of beating the animal’s speed.

In the medium-term, the company says it’s aiming to exceed a tenth of the walking speed of a human, roughly equating to about seven miles per day.

Although the company’s tunnels usually use Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y units to offer rides to passengers, the company has recently been using the Cybertruck to cart passengers on a couple of different occasions.

Other sites The Boring Company has recently reached with Prufrock include those leading to future stations in Chinatown, and at the Westgate hotel, among many others. The Boring Company recently announced that it has given rides to two million passengers in its tunnels, a little over a year after surpassing one million.

The Boring Company last year held an engineer recruitment event at its facility in Bastrop, Texas, recently holding a similar event for students dubbed the Not-a-Boring Competition.

Elon Musk-led tunneling company The Boring Company has completed a new tunnel in Las Vegas as it continues to make progress on a larger loop covering much of the city’s downtown.

On Friday, The Boring Company page on X posted saying that the Prufrock-1 tunneling machine has completed the Westgate-2 tunnel, marking the massive tool’s fourth tunnel constructed in the city. In addition to Prufrock-1, the post also says that its the seventh tunnel the company has built in Las Vegas, while the other three were completed using Godot and its latest iteration of the Prufrock machine, the Prufrock-2.

The post also included a photo of Prufrock-1 emerging from the construction site beside the Westgate hotel, which you can see below.

The company initially reached the Westgate and Encore hotels in July, both of which are on the outskirts of the area currently being used by The Boring Company’s first underground loop.

The Westgate-2 tunnel comes as a part of the company’s larger Vegas loop and in addition to the initial Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) loop, which is currently active after having been built in roughly a year. The first loop of the underground tunnel system includes three stations over about 1.7 miles of underground tunnels.

You can see the full map of stations The Boring Company eventually plans to include in the Vegas loop, along with the Westgate station at the Northernmost end of the LVCC loop.

According to the company’s website, it has set a medium-term goal that the Prufrock machines will be able to outpace one-tenth of the speed of human walking, which it says is around 7 miles per day. Currently, the Prufrock machines can already tunnel more than 1 mile per week, which is roughly six times faster than the company’s last boring machine, the Godot.

In late September, The Boring Company held an Engineering Day recruiting event at its Bastrop, Texas facility, during which the company talked about and showed off its Prufrock machine, with the discussions lasting much longer than originally planned.

The Boring Company (TBC) hosted an engineer recruitment event this week at its Bastrop, Texas facility. In a post commemorating the event and those who came, the company also noted that talks lasted significantly longer than initially planned, calling them “fun/intense engineering discussions.”

On Friday, TBC shared photos from its Engineering Demo Day event on X, saying that the event was scheduled for just an hour and a half and adding that discussions ended up lasting about four hours. The Elon Musk-led company said the talks were about Prufrock, its massive tunneling machine, and the device’s “path to rapidly tunnel 10,000+ miles.”

The company also thanked attendees for staying late to be a part of the discussions.

The post included two photos, one showing a crowd standing around the Prufrock III, the machine’s latest generation, outside the Bastrop warehouse. The other photo is from inside the warehouse, showing the other side of the enormous tunneling device.

The event was initially announced last month as a recruitment event for Mechanical, Electrical and Software Engineers, with TBC sharing a link for interested parties to request an invitation. The company offered limited, first-come-first-served invites for the event, and the photos show a relatively small group of attendees totaling around 60-80 people.

The first major tunneling project from TBC is taking place in Las Vegas, with the Prufrock I and II units creating a number of underground loops connecting various points in the city to the Las Vegas Convention Center. Currently, TBC is preparing to debut a new Vegas loop station near the Encore’s valet entrance next year. Once complete, the Encore station will bring passengers to the Convention Center station in about a minute.

On its website, TBC details its Prufrock tunneling machines:

“Prufrock is designed to ‘porpoise,’ meaning it launches directly from the surface, mines underground, and re-emerges upon completion. This allows Prufrock to begin tunneling within 48 hours of arrival onsite and eliminates the need to excavate expensive pits to launch and retrieve the machine.

“Prufrock is designed to tunnel at a speed greater than 1 mile per week, which is 6 times faster than The Boring Company’s previous generation TBM (Godot+). This is still 4-5 times slower than a garden snail…but Prufrock is catching up!

“Prufrock’s medium-term goal is to exceed 1/10 of human walking speed, which is 7 miles per day.”

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) opened investigations into The Boring Company’s Bastrop site after receiving three complaints about wastewater and concrete production.

The complaints have resulted in a pair of investigations into The Boring Company’s Bastrop site. The TCEQ did not divulge who made the complaints. However, a spokesperson said that the agency would aim to complete the investigations within 60 days, reported Biz Journals. Bastrop County Commissioner Mel Hammer believes the TCEQ will not find anything to suggest that TBC is violating county regulations.

The Boring Company purchased 73 acres in Bastrop county. TBC requested a permit approval from the Bastrop County Commissioners Court to build a warehouse and manufacturing facility on the site. However, the Bastrop County Commissioners Court received complaints from neighbors about the TBC site.

People in the surrounding area brought up the lack of transparency about the site, increased traffic in the area, and concerns that the site’s development would infringe on their pastoral views and quality of life. The Bastrop County Commissioners Court decided to table The Boring Company’s request after receiving the complaints.

The Boring Company website recently posted a picture that revealed it launched Prufrock-2 in Bastrop, a significant milestone for its latest tunnel boring machine (TBM). Prufrock-2 is designed to mine up to 1 mile per week.

Last month, The Boring Company announced that it raised $675 million in a Series C funding round. Part of the funds will go toward scaling boring machine production. It seems like Bastrop will play a big role in manufacturing TBC’s boring machines.
