The V4 cabinet itself is already a generational leap, delivering up to 500 kW per stall for passenger vehicles and up to 1.2 MW for the Tesla Semi, while supporting twice the stalls per cabinet at three times the power density of its predecessor. The network is expanding rapidly on multiple fronts. The first true 500 kW V4 Supercharger on the East Coast opened in Kissimmee, Florida in March 2026, followed closely by a new site in Nashville, Tennessee. A public Megacharger for the Tesla Semi launched in Ontario, California in early March, with 37 additional Megacharger sites targeted for completion by end of year. Meanwhile, more than 27,500 Supercharger stalls are now accessible to non-Tesla EVs from brands including Ford, GM, Rivian, Hyundai, and most recently Stellantis, whose Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Fiat, and Maserati BEV customers gained access in March 2026.

Tesla has opened its first true V4 Supercharging station on the East Coast in Kissimmee, Florida, just south of Orlando.

The eight-stall site, powered by an advanced 1.2 MW V4 power cabinet, is capable of delivering up to 500 kW, making it one of only four fully operational 500 kW-capable V4 stations in the United States.

Pricing is dynamic and competitive, as Tesla owners pay $0.40 per kWh during peak hours (8 a.m. to midnight), dropping to an attractive $0.20/kWh off-peak (midnight to 8 a.m.).

Non-Tesla EVs, which can now plug directly into the NACS ports thanks to the open standard, are charged a premium—$0.56/kWh peak and $0.28/kWh off-peak—reflecting Tesla’s strategy to monetize network access while rewarding its own customers.

What’s Makes This a “True” V4 Supercharger

What truly distinguishes this installation from the hundreds of “V4” stalls already scattered across the network? Most existing V4 dispensers, rolled out since 2023, feature welcome upgrades like longer cables, built-in touchscreen displays, integrated credit-card readers for non-Tesla users, and improved ergonomics.

However, nearly all of these have been paired with legacy V3 power cabinets. These hybrid setups, sometimes informally called V3.5, deliver charging curves virtually identical to standard V3 stations, typically topping out at 250-325 kW depending on the vehicle and site conditions.

In contrast, Kissimmee’s true V4 architecture incorporates next-generation 1.2 MW power cabinets. These support battery voltages up to 1,000 V (double the 500 V of V3 systems) and can push up to 500 kW per stall.

One compact cabinet efficiently powers all eight stalls, slashing the physical footprint and reportedly keeping deployment costs under $40,000 per stall, far cheaper than earlier designs.

Right now, the primary beneficiary is the Cybertruck, which can achieve dramatically faster charging at low states of charge.

The first V4 Supercharger in Canada landed in Langley, British Columbia at a shopping center known as the Langley Bypass. There are 16 total stalls, and the site became active on August 30, Tesla Charging announced:

The expansion of the V4 Superchargers to Canada shows the automaker is not only expanding its industry-leading infrastructure on an international level, but the deployment of faster charging piles, especially outside the United States and Canada, makes the EV experience more efficient.

The V4 Superchargers first started rolling out in Europe in 2023, and introduced several new features, like the Magic Dock, which enabled non-Tesla electric vehicles to charge thanks to Combined Charging System (CCS) compatibility.

While charging speed capabilities topped out at 250 kW for the V4, the same as the previous V3 iteration, the current rating saw an over 30 percent increase in terms of amperage, going from 425 to 615. This was likely enforced to support 800-volt architectures, which will enable faster charging speeds despite the same kW rating.

It appears the funding will be used to install or upgrade over 7,000 Superchargers to the new V4.

As a part of an ambitious plan to grow sustainability projects across Europe stemming from the EU Green Deal, the European Union has announced it will provide €352 million to fund 26 total infrastructure projects.

These projects have been selected under the Connecting Europe Facility, or CEF. Proposals were submitted by April 13, 2023, and the EU has finally announced which projects will receive the funding.

Tesla was selected for two Supercharger projects: One under Tesla Italy and one for Tesla Poland, totaling €148,720,000 (~$149,836,671).

The list of approved projects was first noticed by Electrive.

Tesla may have applied for these projects directly from subsidiaries in these two countries, but the projects will expand well outside the countries’ boundaries.

For example, the project that was applied for by Tesla Italy, which was awarded €133,780,000, has the following description:

“The project aims at deploying 6,458 recharging points (250 kW) for LDV in 613 locations in 16 countries (AT, BE, BG, DE, ES, FI, FR, IE, IT, LV, LT, LU, NL, RO, SK, SE) along the Core and Comprehensive Network. The project foresees both the deployment of new recharging stations and the replacement of existing outdated recharging points not satisfying the requirement of the call in terms of recharging capacity and open-accessibility.”

Judging by that description, Tesla seems to be eager to upgrade old Superchargers to new equipment, presumably the V4, which launched earlier this year on the continent.

The project Tesla Poland applied for was awarded €14,940,000, and plans for the deployment of new Supercharger equipment in six countries:

“The project aims to deploy 740 recharging points (250 kW) for LDV in 74 locations in 6 countries (CZ, EL, HR, HU, PL, SI) along the Core and Comprehensive Network. The project foresees both the deployment of new recharging stations and the replacement of existing outdated recharging points not satisfying the requirement of the call in terms of recharging capacity and open-accessibility.”

The language used in the descriptions of these projects hints toward the replacement of old Supercharger stalls with the V4 based on the use of the term “open-accessibility.” The new V4 Supercharger was designed by Tesla to charge any EV and even includes a longer charging cable to enable more accessibility for non-Tesla EVs.

Tesla has also enabled other features in its European Superchargers. Recently, we showed the first V4 stall in the United Kingdom, which was also the first to equip contactless payment.

Tesla has been installing the first V4 Superchargers in the Netherlands, with the new piles being put into the ground earlier this month. For weeks, the automaker has been working toward the new V4 Superchargers being operational, and yesterday, they were finally unveiled.

Today, Tesla officially announced the new V4 Superchargers were now active and are equipped with a longer cable that will make them easier to access for all EVs. Additionally, Tesla said it plans to open new V4 sites across Europe “soon.”

Non-Tesla electric vehicles will not be able to utilize the new V4 stalls right away, the company detailed.

“Currently, V4 stalls are only open to Tesla vehicles,” the automaker said, “as we test and evaluate performance.”

The company added that it would soon welcome all EVs at the site.

Interestingly, Tesla has not released any information regarding charging speeds for the new V4 Superchargers, which is one of the most crucial factors in the development of new technology.

Tesla Superchargers have continued to be faster and more advanced through different technological advancements. The first Superchargers offered 100 kW charging speeds, which were then increased to 120 kW with V2. V3, which was rolled out in 2019, more than doubled these speeds and was capable of 250 kW.

The V3 Superchargers utilized thinner, lighter cables and liquid cooling to make charging more efficient and enabled speeds of up to 1,000 miles of range per hour.

The new V4 Superchargers look similar to the Tesla Megacharger, which has charging speeds of up to 1 MW for the Semi.

Last Summer, rumors of the first-ever V4 Superchargers started to swirl as illustrations and specifications of what would appear to be the newest iteration of Tesla’s charging piles surfaced. Rumors of increased size and even faster charging capabilities were the first things that were reported with the new system.

Plans for the first installations of the V4 Supercharger appeared in a project plan for a new site in Danvers, Massachusetts, but it was revealed that the United States would not get the first bites at the new design and functionality.

On Wednesday, during Tesla Investor Day, the company said it was officially installing the first V4 Superchargers in Europe, and now it seems we’re getting a first look at what is to come.

Initially spotted by Electrek in a video from electricfelix, it appears the first V4 Supercharger installations are taking place in Harderwijk, the Netherlands. The chargers will support a 1,000-volt architecture for increased charging speeds across multiple manufacturers, longer cables that will support other vehicle makes, and larger stalls to house all of the extra power.

Tesla could be installing the first V4 Superchargers in Europe due to the continent’s experience with the non-Tesla EV charging pilot program, which the automaker launched a couple of years ago. Instead of attempting to test out other EVs’ compatibility with Tesla’s Supercharger network in the United States, the company first tested the program in Europe, where there would be less congestion.

Although Tesla is now installing “Magic Dock” chargers in the United States that enable other EVs to charge, the rollout is extremely young, with the first installations occurring just last week.

It seems logical Tesla would try the new Superchargers in Europe first.

We’re seeing that with Magic Dock-equipped Superchargers in the U.S., the biggest complaint thus far is the length of the cable, which has vehicles like the F-150 Lightning taking up multiple parking spots to enable charging. The V4 Supercharger appears to have longer cables, according to the video.

Details regarding the Harderwijk location specifically are not available, other than Tesla’s indication on its website that it is expected to open sometime in Q2. The video shows around 16 total Supercharging stalls at the site, all of which are expected to be V4.

Tesla has the largest infrastructure for charging its electric vehicles on Earth. Still, the most significant criticism of the Supercharging network is that it is not yet open to owners of all EVs, so you must be a Tesla owner to use it. Tesla reserves its charging infrastructure for its vehicles, which helped the company gain most of the world’s EV market share in the push for electrification. Tesla has over 35,000 Superchargers globally.

However, as more manufacturers build more electric vehicles, the company realizes there are more EVs, but not necessarily more chargers. Tesla’s robust charging network would alleviate EV charger availability issues if the company were to make its Superchargers compatible with all vehicles. The company has tested this theory in Europe for over a year with a Pilot Program that has now expanded to fourteen countries, with the most recent addition being Iceland.

In Australia, Tesla is prepared to make its Supercharging network available to more electric vehicles as long as the project was funded by government grants, according to the Ludicrous Feed YouTube channel (via The Driven).

Representatives from Australia’s province of New South Wales, located on the country’s Southeast side, confirmed that all Tesla Supercharger sites funded under the government’s ultra-fast charging grants would be available to all EVs.

In late October, New South Wales government reps announced $39.4 million in grants to EV charging companies, including Tesla, BP, and others. The program was created in an attempt to expand the country’s availability of public EV chargers. To qualify, each site needed a minimum of two ultra-fast EV charging bays capable of speeds of up to 350kW. It also needs two fast-charging bays with 175kW capabilities.

The program will provide 500 new fast and ultra-fast charging points across 86 sites.

Tesla is still expected to launch a similar program in the United States. Earlier this year, when the White House stated Tesla was in the process of developing new Supercharger equipment that would enable charging for non-Tesla EVs, it indicated the company was planning to open its massive network to a growing fleet of EVs. Tesla has developed a new Supercharger design, which is referred to as the V4, but early designs did not show a secondary charging connection for other vehicles.

Tesla’s V4 Supercharger

Tesla’s V4 Supercharger will, of course, succeed the 250 kW-capable V3 Superchargers that were released in 2019. The V3 Supercharger was an outrageous update and a huge development to the expedited process of charging Tesla’s EVs. Rates of up to 1,000 miles of range added per hour are capable with the V3 Superchargers, but they are also only available to Tesla vehicles, which is where the V4 may be coming into play.

Along with the rumored CSS support that the V4 Supercharger will pack, Tesla seems to be revising a recently-released 72 kW Urban Supercharger design for the new stalls. In the project outline for the Danvers, Massachusetts Supercharger, the design for the “Alternative Supercharger Post” is strikingly similar, but there are a few details that lead us to believe this is what Tesla is planning to utilize for the new design.

Initially, the Alternative design in the blueprints is massive: 6′ 4.5″, weighing 200 pounds. That’s significantly larger than the Urban Supercharger, which is compact and perhaps only four feet or less in height. We recently reported on some rumors surrounding the V4 Supercharger design, and it does appear to be somewhat similar from a very elementary perspective to what descriptions of the new shell would be. However, there are some things that still remain in question as the V4 Supercharger design has not yet been made public by Tesla.

CCS Support

The project design lacks any mention of potential CCS Support on the V4 Supercharger, which is what most people would expect moving forward from Tesla. The automaker has been utilizing a Pilot Program in Europe that allows other EV brands to utilize Supercharger stalls. This project is available in sixteen countries in Europe, and Tesla has made it clear that, eventually, the capability will be available in the United States. For now, it is too much of an advantage as Tesla continues to grow, and the company keeps it exclusive to Tesla vehicles in the U.S.

However, as we are already a month into the second half of 2022, it gives Tesla less time to roll out the “new Supercharger equipment that will enable non-Tesla EV drivers in North America to use Tesla Superchargers.” These quoted words come courtesy of the White House.

CCS Support may not be on these designs for several reasons, and it could be that Tesla simply hasn’t finalized a design for that Supercharger. Additionally, this could be an entirely different design altogether, and while it could be the V4 Supercharger, Tesla may not have plans to put CCS Support on the V4. That could perhaps be saved for another design.

900v Architecture

Tesla’s V4 Supercharger will also likely support ultra-fast charging architectures like a rumored 900V setup for the Cybertruck. These higher-voltage architectures enable ultra-fast charging and can supply high-performance or high-workload vehicles with range in short amounts of time.

Tesla is also likely to head toward a 350 kW charging rate, which is present in Electrify America chargers. These chargers are perfect for high-voltage vehicles as they can charge vehicles faster, and most importantly, the vehicles can support them. Their higher voltage architecture can stabilize the charging process for these higher-powered chargers. The Porsche Taycan has an 800v architecture, which enables faster charging, less weight, and high performance, all at lower temperatures.

Tesla’s current top-of-the-line Supercharger is the V3, which is capable of 250 kW charging speeds that can give owners 1,000 miles of range per hour. The introduction of the V3 Supercharger was during my first days as a journalist at Teslarati, and I remember it vividly. It was incredible to see such fast charging speeds and a controlled and calculated rollout of Tesla’s new tech. But of course, even new tech becomes outdated.

The new V4 Supercharger could have a completely updated design, according to @MarcoRPTesla, who stated that the new design will be taller, slimmer, and more streamlined than previous Supercharger shell designs.

As for the V4 design, it looks like Tesla will be using a different shell than the current V2 and V3 models.

One could argue that the design of the upcoming V4 Superchargers are similar to the Megachargers Tesla will utilize for the Semi. Teslarati showed exclusive images of the Megacharger design at the Frito-Lay factory in Modesto in June, and it is similar to the drafts of the V4 Supercharger design.

As you can see from these drafted designs, the new V4 Supercharger could be completely different in terms of dimensions and could be an advantage when used with Tesla’s upcoming Cybertruck as it is a larger vehicle.

The front page of a report also leaked from Tesla that showed the company is planning to develop a Supercharger Charge Post that has Dual Cables that are suitable for both V3 and V4 charging speeds and could also include a potential CCS charging port for third-party automakers to use.

Now, Tesla has discussed opening Superchargers to third-party companies for several years, and it’s already started in the form of a Pilot Program in Europe. The same type of program could be launched in the United States later this year, and it likely will start with the V4 Supercharger. After all, the White House said in late June:

“Later this year, Tesla will begin production of new Supercharger equipment that will enable non-Tesla EV drivers in North America to use Tesla Superchargers.”

Earlier this week, automaker Aptera pleaded to Congress that Tesla’s Supercharger should be the standard in the United States. “While electric vehicle technology has rapidly advanced, the charging standard in the U.S. has not,” Aptera wrote in an email to Teslarati. “CCS and SAE J1772, the US’s common standards, are clunky, cumbersome, and expensive.”

Tesla’s non-Tesla Supercharger pilot program expands to France, Norway

It is unlikely that Tesla’s Supercharger design will be adopted as the Standard, but the inclusion of CCS-compatible charging connectors on upcoming Superchargers would be a huge advantage for e-mobility and the adoption of EVs as a whole.
