Tesla is rolling out a folding V4 Supercharger design, an engineering change that allows 33% more units to fit on a single delivery truck, cuts deployment time in half, and reduces overall installation cost by roughly 20%.

The folding mechanism addresses one of the least glamorous but most consequential bottlenecks in charging infrastructure: getting hardware from factory floor to job site efficiently. By collapsing the form factor for transit and unfolding into an operational configuration on arrival, the new design dramatically reduces the logistics overhead that has historically slowed Supercharger rollouts, particularly at large or remote sites where multiple units are needed simultaneously.

The timing aligns with a broader acceleration in Tesla’s network strategy. In March 2026, Tesla’s Gigafactory New York produced its final V3 Supercharger cabinet after more than seven years and 15,000 units, pivoting entirely to V4 cabinet production. The V4 cabinet itself is already a generational leap, delivering up to 500 kW per stall for passenger vehicles and up to 1.2 MW for the Tesla Semi, while supporting twice the stalls per cabinet at three times the power density of its predecessor. The folding transport innovation layers logistical efficiency on top of that technical foundation.

Tesla launches first ‘true’ East Coast V4 Supercharger: here’s what that means

Tesla Charging’s Director Max de Zegher, commenting on the V4 cabinet when it launched, captured the operational philosophy behind these changes: “Posts can peak up to 500kW for cars, but we need less than 1MW across 8 posts to deliver maximum power to cars 99% of the time.” The design philosophy has always been about maximizing real-world throughput, not just peak specs, and the folding transport upgrade extends that thinking into the supply chain itself.

Tesla North American Charging Director Max de Zegher recently shared some insights about the company’s V4 cabinet Superchargers, which are currently being deployed today.

As per the charging executive, the V4 cabinet does not only usher in a new era of fast charging for the company’s consumer vehicles. It is also an innovative solution that could very well make the Tesla Semi instantly successful when it starts being produced in meaningful volumes next year.

V4 cabinet Superchargers

In a recent post on X, the official Tesla Charging account announced that the first V4 cabinet Supercharger is now live. The V4 cabinet Supercharger paves the way for 0.5 MW and 3X power density, with two stalls per cabinet. Tesla Charging also noted that the V4 cabinet Supercharger offers higher throughput, higher efficiency, lower cost, and faster deployments.

In a follow-up post, de Zegher highlighted that the V4 cabinet is nothing short of a masterpiece. He also revealed that the technology used in the V4 cabinet Superchargers will enable 1.2 MW charging for the Semi.

“It might be odd to get so excited about a white box, but the V4 cabinet is a charging masterpiece: AC in, 16 trays of power electronics, DC out. This is the tech that will make 1.2MW charging for Semi, and 0.5 MW charging for cars, ubiquitous around the world,” de Zegher wrote in his post on X.

Tesla Semi ramp

The Tesla Semi has the potential to be the company’s most disruptive vehicle in its lineup. However, its success will likely be limited by how far the Class 8 all-electric long hauler could travel. With this in mind, it is pertinent for the Semi to have charging stops set up across the globe. Only then could it truly become a legitimate alternative to diesel long-haulers, including those engaged in cross-country routes.

If Tesla could successfully ramp the deployment of its V4 cabinet Superchargers, the company could all but ensure that the Semi is usable for ultra-long distance routes right out of the gate. That could effectively change the transportation game. The Tesla Charging executive seemed to hint as much in his X post, with de Zegher stating that the V4 cabinet Supercharger could be configured for 1.2 MW for the Semi.

When asked if every V4 cabinet Supercharger will have 1.2 MW with 8 stall support, the Tesla Charging executive noted that “1.2 MW config for Semi. For cars it can be configured as either 1.2 MW or 1 MW efficiently shared across 8 V4 post.”

The second movie screen’s frame is officially up at Tesla’s unique diner, drive-in theater, and Supercharger in Southern California, coming a few months after the first one was installed.

Over the last several months, Tesla has been building out a long-anticipated Supercharger, diner, and drive-in movie theater in Los Angeles, and after months of waiting for the second movie theater screen to go up, it appears it’s finally been built.

Last week, crews began clearing power lines that were blocking the construction of the second screen’s frame. On Monday, Andy of 247Tesla shared a photo with Teslarati showing the frame for the second screen fully constructed and in place.

Crews have been getting closer to building the Tesla diner’s second screen over the last several weeks, with the site last month surpassing nine months since construction began. Tesla first broke ground on the unique Supercharger and diner site in September, and while the first movie screen frame went up in March, work has been focused on the exterior and interior work on the restaurant building, as well as grading in the parking lot.

The idea for the Tesla diner came about in 2018, when CEO Elon Musk discussed the concept on Twitter with some of his followers. He noted that he was hoping to create an old school drive-in movie theater and Supercharger location, featuring a restaurant with waiters on roller skates and rock and roll music playing. In addition, Musk said that the Tesla diner would feature movie screens playing some of the best scenes from movie history.

As can be seen in the building coming together today, the diner building features multi-level seating on which attendees can sit and eat and watch movie clips on the screens while they wait for their electric vehicles (EVs) to charge. Last year, we covered much of the rollout of Tesla’s permits for the site, with site plans showing around 32 different charging stalls.

You can see some of the site plans for the 7001 W. Santa Monica Blvd. location below.

It’s not clear at this point when Tesla will finish building the site, but it’s made pretty rapid progress since breaking ground in September when the site was basically just an empty plot of land. Photos taken around the site in November showed only the initial building structures going up, while the diner building began to take shape just a couple months later in January.

You can watch the latest drone update from 247Tesla below, as shared on Friday, or check out some of the channel’s other recent updates here.

The unique Hollywood Supercharger site is located at 7001 W. Santa Monica Boulevard, and it’s set to include two drive-in movie theater screens, a 1950s-style diner restaurant with multi-level seating, and around 32 Supercharger stalls for vehicles to charge.

CEO Elon Musk has said that the screens, only one of which has started going up so far, will play clips from the best movies of all time, while popular renders of the future site show it being called “Milliways,” in reference to the restaurant at the edge of the galaxy in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

We covered much of the rollout of Tesla’s permit applications for the site throughout last year, including its move from a former Santa Monica location to its current spot in West Hollywood. You can see the permit for the site below, including the site plans.

Tesla is continuing construction on its upcoming Supercharger, diner and drive-in theater project in Los Angeles, California, with the latest photo showing one of the screens starting to be built.

In a photo shared on Reddit last week, you can see the first screen under construction at the LA Supercharger site, located on the northern side of the parking lot. Another screen is expected to be constructed on the western side, both of which will be playing clips from some of the best movies of all time, according to the project’s original vision from CEO Elon Musk.

Along with the screen being built at the 7001 West Santa Monica Boulevard Supercharger, the diner building has been making progress in recent months, with the recent photo also showing the deck level sporting a somewhat complete floor.

One source told Teslarati that they spoke to a welder on-site who said the west screen can’t be constructed until the power lines on that side of the property are removed, for which AT&T is reportedly responsible.

Tesla broke ground on the Supercharger, diner and drive-in theater project in late September, after we reported on a series of permit approvals for the West Hollywood site throughout much of last year. Although the site was originally expected to be built in Santa Monica, Tesla settled on building the project in Hollywood in 2022, now set to include around 32 charging stalls.

Many have created renders for the Supercharger and diner site over the years, though the site plans and construction most closely resemble designs created by X user HowardModelS. The site concept includes the round, multi-level diner building that now be seen being built, as well as several Superchargers and a screen.

The restaurant is also branded “Milliways” in the render, after the The Restaurant at the End of the Universe in the Douglas Adams novel The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy — long known to be a favorite of Musk’s.

Below you can see the full approval for the Supercharger, diner and drive-in theater from the City of Los Angeles, including the site plans at the end of the document.

Tesla has been making good progress on its Supercharger, diner and drive-in movie theater concept in Los Angeles, California, with the latest shots depicting the restaurant building walls going up.

YouTube channel 247Tesla shared a video featuring drone shots of the West Hollywood Tesla location on Wednesday, with walls now replacing what was pretty much just scaffolding about a month ago. The video includes a handful of angles of the building and construction site, including multiple top-down aerial drone shots.

There are also significantly more construction workers at the site than were spotted there in the past few months, with many of them placing sealing air barriers on and around the wall structures. The building is also starting to look more like the “Milliways” restaurant concept that has made its way around the internet since CEO Elon Musk first began talking about the idea in 2018.

You can see the full 247Tesla video below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfCRe0cW6tw

The latest update comes following a few recent updates since the site gained approval to begin building the diner, theater and charging project in August. Tesla broke ground on the Supercharger in late September, with the very first of the interior structures starting to go up in November.

The site plans seem to show at least 25 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at the Supercharger site, and the automaker is expected to eventually have movie screens on the two walls across from the restaurant. Additionally, the plans show rooftop and deck level seating, which appears to be starting to come together as can be seen in the above video.

The concept originally came from a conversation with Musk in 2018, in which the Tesla CEO said on Twitter that he planned to “put an old school drive-in, roller skates & rock restaurant at one of the new Tesla Supercharger locations in LA.” Musk also said the movie screens will play short clips from some of the best movies in history.

Tesla later incorporated its logo with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to cover the restaurant category, and though it was originally planning to build the diner in Santa Monica, it later moved the project to its current site at 7001 West Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood.

Tesla is building a massive 164-stall Supercharger station in California, set to become the new world’s largest Supercharger upon completion.

X user and longtime Supercharger scout MarcoRPi1 spotted a construction application for the site on Monday, showing site plans featuring 164 stalls in Kern County. The project is dubbed a Supercharger station and microgrid, set to include solar canopies, drive-through stalls and likely some Tesla Megapacks to store power generated by the solar hardware.

Located close to Lost Hills off of Highway 46 near the junction with I-5, the site plans include as many as 16 pull-through stalls and solar canopies above every parking spot. Marco says that he thinks Tesla may also be working on a solar farm to the north of the charging stations, noting that the plans show a “maintenance gate,” and a 150-foot designation. Still, he adds that the claim hasn’t yet been confirmed.

Currently, the Harris Ranch Supercharger in Coalinga, California, is the largest with 98 stalls, as followed by an 84-stall Supercharger in Quartzsite, Arizona.

Tesla is expanding the Supercharger network fairly rapidly, and the automaker surpassed 2,000 active stations in the U.S. in October. According to supercharger.info at the time of writing, there are currently 2,728 active Supercharger stations in the U.S., and as many as 3,004 across all of North America.

Along with some of the company’s larger Supercharger sites, Tesla is also building a unique station including a diner and drive-in theater in Los Angeles. The location, which is currently being constructed in East Hollywood, has been discussed by CEO Elon Musk since 2018, set toinclude short clips from the best movies of all time, as well as an overall 1950s-style theme with rock music and waiters riding roller skates.

New photos show that Tesla is making quick construction on a highly anticipated Supercharger station in California, which is set to feature a 1950s-style diner and a drive-in movie theater.

After progress on Tesla’s Santa Monica Boulevard Supercharger was shown in aerial footage earlier this month, new photos just weeks later highlight the speed at which construction is taking place. On Friday, Matt Hartman of X account ShorealoneFilms shared close-up photos of the site from on the ground, revealing a bunch of new scaffolding that has gone up as the diner building continues taking shape.

In the photos, you can see at least one construction worker on site, and close-ups of the restaurant building’s lower-level interior show a few stairwells heading up to the top level. Eventually, the diner is expected to include rooftop seating, on which customers will be able to sit and eat while watching scenes from some of the best movies in history on one of two large drive-in movie theater screens.

Tesla only began construction on the West Hollywood site in September, while initial supports for the diner building were seen in photos shared in November.

Although Elon Musk first began discussing the Supercharger concept in 2018, Tesla submitted its initial plans for the unique charging station last year. The automaker also filed a patent in 2021 to have its “T” logo include restaurant services.

In August, the company obtained official approval to begin construction, after the project was moved from its originally planned Santa Monica location to its current site on 7001 W. Santa Monica Blvd.

Progress appears to be moving quickly on a Tesla Supercharger in Los Angeles set to feature a drive-in theater and diner, as new aerial footage shows the initial structure starting to resemble the restaurant shown in the permit.

In photos shared in November, construction was just beginning on the West Hollywood site. On Thursday, however, Fox 11 Los Angeles shared aerial footage of the planned Supercharger, showing how quickly the diner has taken shape. The Supercharger is expected to be opened by the end of the year, after the idea of a 1950s-style drive-in, diner and charger has been talked about by CEO Elon Musk since at least 2018.

Although the site was originally set to be located in Santa Monica, the project was moved to its current location at 7001 W. Santa Monica Boulevard.

Fox anchor Stu Mendel says he thinks the site will be “super popular,” noting that it will be open to all electric vehicle (EV) brands, and coinciding with nearly every automaker adopting Tesla’s charging hardware and gaining Supercharger access. You can also see the restaurant building structure starting to look like the one drawn up in the permit, and like the artist rendering that has circulated over the years.

Tesla gained construction approval on the site in August, after submitting official plans for the Supercharger last year and gaining a wave of permit updates earlier this year. Tesla’s construction plans also show the long-talked-about rooftop seating, several Supercharging stalls, and an additional building that hasn’t yet started being built.

The diner is expected to include rock music and wait staff on roller skates, while the drive-in theater will show a highlight reel of the best movie scenes in history, as initially stated by Musk in his original post about the concept.

The forthcoming Tesla Cybertruck has been spotted in several U.S. locations over the past few weeks, ahead of the electric pickup’s official launch. Recently, the Cybertruck was seen at Tesla’s special 50,000th Supercharger stall, which was revealed last week and given a unique paint job.

The photo of the Cybertruck charging at the Roseville, California Supercharger was originally posted on Facebook and was shared on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum. Notably, the Cybertruck includes a Texas dealer’s license plate and the “release candidate” decals seen on many of the pre-production trucks spotted in recent weeks.

In the photo, the Cybertruck appears in front of Tesla’s Ultra Red-painted Supercharger stall, which the automaker shared a photo of last week without saying where it was located. Before long, the charging stall’s location was revealed to be at a Roseville Supercharger station.

Pictured: Michael Kuntz. Credit: Thomas Tallman | Facebook and Instagram

The photo makes the Cybertruck look pretty massive as it’s backed into the Supercharging spot to charge. Some commenters on a Reddit post with the image aired concerns about Supercharger cables being stretched by Cybertrucks, as the pictured unit looks to be parked a few inches away from the charging stall.

The Cybertruck was also captured driving away by the picture’s original photographer and Kuntz’s husband, Thomas Tallman (@mermanthommy on Instagram). You can see Tallman’s video of the Cybertruck driving away on his Instagram here.

The sighting is just the latest ahead of the Cybertruck’s first deliveries and before the highly anticipated electric pickup enters mass production next year. One tally shows that over two million Cybertruck reservations have been made since the vehicle’s unveiling in 2019, based on reservation numbers and some self-reported reservations.

To name just a few of the Cybertruck’s recent sightings, onlookers have seen the forthcoming vehicle offroading at Hollister Hills in Hollister, California, towing a trailer in Palo Alto, cruising down the Las Vegas strip, and charging outside of Tesla’s Gigafactory in Austin, Texas.

In one sighting at the Hollister Hills State Vehicle Recreation Area (SVRA), Tesla staff reportedly told a Jeep owner that initial Cybertruck deliveries would begin in October. The report came about a week after Tesla briefly halted production at Giga Texas to upgrade its Cybertruck and Model Y production lines.

Currently, only two things stand in the way of the Cybertruck going from pre-production to actual production and initial deliveries: crash testing results from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and an official Certificate of Conformity.

Update: Corrected the original source of the image and replaced the photo with an uncropped version from the owner, Michael Kuntz, and the photographer and Kuntz’s husband, Thomas Tallman.
